About Scotia, NY

Scotia is a village in Schenectady County, part of the town of Glenville, incorporated in 1904. It had 7,272 residents at the 2020 census. The Western Gateway Bridge carries Route 5 over the Mohawk River to connect Scotia with the city of Schenectady.

Scotia is also where Route 50 and Route 147 begin, leading north into Saratoga County. Schenectady County Airport lies about two nautical miles north-northeast of the village. The village took its name from the Latin word for Scotland, chosen by Alexander Lindsay Glen, a native of Scotland.
